All Things University: Finishing First Year

Ten months later and that's me finished for summer... First-year completed. Not only is this an academic achievement but a personal one, moving to a new town, meeting new people, becoming part of a wider community. I'm currently writing this from outside my second home (the library) countless hours have been spent in this building over the last year, whether it's spent in the archives or in the study room. I thought I'd take the opportunity to reflect on some of my favourite memories from my first year at Royal Holloway, University of London.

22nd September 2019: Life changed forever...
This was the day I moved into my halls room, as crappy as it might have been it was my room and I will never forget the experiences I had here, whether it's my spider infestations or the overwhelming heat, this was the place that I learnt to call home.

Many lessons were learnt from this experience, first of which being that people are grim and not everyone may have the same hygiene standards as you and secondly that I have way too much stuff!

28th September 2019: Freshers Ball
Our final hurrah before being left with the burden of student responsibilities, headlined by Chase & Status we partied ankle-deep in mud all night. I'm pleased to say that yes my heels did survive this amount of mud and now just have a well-loved look to them. Of course, it wouldn't have been an RHUL ball if it didn't throw it down with rain all evening, but nevertheless, we still had the best time.

30th October 2019: Halloween...
One of the busiest nights I'd ever seen, a sell-out night packed with people dressed from powderpuff girls to the classic devil. Mainroom was fully decked out.

Me and Delilah were some of the basic people as the devil and vampire. One of the greatest costumes was from the Rugby team, all going as 'I'm a celebrity' contestants.

12th December 2019: I cuddled a reindeer
Christmas market day, arguably one of the most anticipated days of the first term, I love a good festive stall with local produce and lots of gift ideas. Slightly disappointed they didn't have a mini Dutch pancake stall but it's okay I survived. Never in a million years did I think I would be seeing three reindeer walking across the front of Founders building. As you can tell from the photo, I was very excited.

20th February 2020: The field trip to end all field trips...
A trip to Shakespeare's Globe, interesting but a long way to go for a half an hour tour and what a surprise, as with everything around here, it was raining. So the three-mile walk from the station to the theatre was an enjoyable one. A highlight
of the trip being the McDonalds we got on the way home!

26th May 2020 - That socially distanced walk
The one with the view. As I say to everyone looking to start uni in September, whether it's Holloway or not, there will always be plenty of ways to have fun with many SU's remaining closed to help with social distancing.

10th June 2020 - I'VE FINISHED FIRST YEAR
Bring on many more memories next year, rhul I love you <3

Thank you for all the support on my 'All Things University' series, I will be continuing them over the summer, taking a slightly more academic approach as we get closer to many of you starting university. As always if you have any post requests please do let me know :)
