All Things University: Things to do in the Surrey Area

Now that we're getting back into the swing of things and new students are moving into the area, I thought I'd write a post about things to do within the Egham/ Englefield Green area. As well as things around the Surrey area that are within easy reach of reliable public transport.

EGHAM:

Egham, located 19 miles west of central London it is home to Royal Holloway University, a campus-based university in Surrey. It is a rather small, quaint town, not one you'd stereotypically think of as a student town, but there's still plenty of things to do especially if you like being outdoors. Within walking distance of the campus, is Windsor Great Park and Virginia Water both of which are stunning locations for walking, picnics and socially distanced meet up with new friends.

CENTRAL LONDON

Being so close to London means that we have great transport links into the city allowing you to explore all the well-known tourist attractions as well as some of the less known places. From Egham, you can get a direct train straight into Waterloo where you can then divert to other areas via the tube, bus or taxi. Keeping in mind the student budget, there are plenty of free or affordable things to do in London such as going to one of the many museums or galleries.

GUILDFORD:
Accessible via car or train, Guildford is a lovely shopping town with plenty of cafes and restaurants. At a weekend it has a delightful farmers market featuring fresh produce from across Surrey. Now more than ever it's crucial to support small businesses.

WINDSOR:
One of the most popular places to go as an RHUL student, Windsor being the Royal and historic town has plenty to offer form culture to shopping to an array of dining experiences. Also just a short train ride away from campus. This is also a great place to meet up with parents during the term, plenty of family-friendly activities.

STAINES:
Arguably the closest main shopping destination to campus, with it being one stop away on the train, this is the perfect day to day location to visit with friends. Whilst being easy to get to the trains are multiple times an hour meaning you can always find a return train without having to wait around too long.
