Graduation Outfit Inspiration

This highly anticipated post is finally here... I've been looking forward to writing this since the start of my 'All Things University' series, it combines all my passions into one post. Graduation should be a day you remember forever, celebrating the hard work you've put in throughout your degree and your outfit should be one that makes you feel confident and glamorous. This post will mainly focus on dresses but there are so many amazing jumpsuit/trouser options available. As always I try to include a variety of different options at a variety of different price points, the only difference with today's post is that I want to try and encourage more sustainable habits. For the first time on Katie Summer, I will be showcasing not only high-street/online options but also rental and second-hand pieces. Fast fashion is spiralling with seriously detrimental impacts on the environment, and for most people purchasing a new graduation outfit might be the type of outfit that may not be worn again. Where possible I want to use my platform to encourage people to shop sustainably, ask yourself; could you upcycle something you already have? If not, is there an item to rent or purchase on a site like Vinted? As a last resort if you are buying from a retailer, will you get use out of this garment for more than one occasion?

ASOS Summer season showcases an array of beautiful dresses, what I like about the four I've linked below is that they're all great examples of transitional pieces. These garments can be dressed up or down so are incredibly wearable after your graduation ceremony. You may also be able to use student discount codes on these pieces to save a little extra.

ASOS Design Floral Lace Mini Dress with Pep Hem and Contrast Trim - £59.50 [1883678]
New Look Cowl Neck Satin Slip Dress - £11.69 [118008405]
Miss Selfridge Broderie Frill Detail Mini Dress - £38.49 [117395305]
ASOS Design v Front v Back Mini Floral Skater Dress - £46 [117674080]

By Rotation is a great service for those of your looking for a specific occasion dress but will not get the use out of it to justify purchasing. Quick disclaimer for By Rotation, the dresses I recommend are part of their Graduation collection but given the nature of rental dresses, you may have to do some searching for your size. There is also a 15% off discount code for your first rental when signing up to the mailing list. Other rental sites include Hurr, Rotaro and HireStreet.

House of CB Floral Dress - From £41 per day
Pretty Lavish Ruffle Dress - From £14 per day
Rixo Polka Dot Dress - From £43 per day
The Vampires Wife Dress - From £111 per day

As with By Rotation, resale sites such as Vinted can sometimes be hit or miss. It really does depend on the type of item you're looking for and if you're looking for one particular garment. When searching for inspiration for this post I was finding that the price of items can still be quite steep despite being pre-loved, this may vary depending on a number of factors such as brand and size. For my graduation, I've been looking on pre-loved sites like Vinted because I've got my heart set on either a Nadine Merabi or Self-Portrait dress (hopefully without such a large price tag).

House of CB Pink Dress (Size 6) - £50
Odd Muse Pearl Dress (Size 6) - £85
House of CB Lilac Corset Dress (Size 6) - £100

Hopefully, this post has given you some inspiration for your graduation outfit. Please do let me know what you think of the new sustainably inclusive format, I would love to do more posts about my Vinted finds and wishlist items!
