Manicure Inspiration:

If you're reading this from the UK then from Monday 12th April the beauty industry can officially reopen which means there will probably be a huge rush of people going to the nail salon. In today's post I want to give you some inspiration of how you can have your nails. I want to include a variety of different styles. Some for those who have shorter more natural nails and some who go for acrylics or gel extensions.

Before we get into some of the images, I want to briefly mention SNS nails. This is an often overlooked manicure that aids nail growth and strengthens your natural nails. SNS nails can also include extensions whilst you want to build up the foundations of your natural nails. This is perfect for people with brittle or rigid nails. A method that my Mum loves, she had this for her wedding and actually felt confident with her nails.

Here is a nail shape guide to give you an idea of the shapes you can ask for when you go in the salon. I find that it's a good idea to have this in mind before your appointment to save time when you're there. Most salons will appreciate it if you have a picture of your inspiration so they can visualise it too! Pinterest is a great place to look for inspiration, that's what I always use and I keep a board of all my favourites.

Natural Nails
You don't always have to have extensions to make your nails look nice. Before the salons closed, I used to just pop in and get a shape and polish this was the perfectly opportunity to give my nails some TLC. The header photo for this post is a perfect example of how you can liven up your natural nails.

In many cases less is more and with this example I can wholeheartedly agree. I love the pastel variation, it's perfect for Spring/Summer and it's also pretty low maintenance. I would recommend going for a builder gel which will help to strengthen your nail whilst also being long-lasting.

See above for another example of builder gel with glitter, this is a perfect wedding nail if you're getting married soon!

For something a little more exciting, I love this floral pattern. One thing I would say is that you'd probably have to have a reasonably sized nail bed for it to look it's best. If you have shorter nails then you could opt for an extension.

Short/Medium Extensions
A personal favourite of mine, usually what I opt for whenever I go to the salon. These are manageable for everyday life, but allow you to experiment with some funky designs.

With only a short extension, this square shape is perfect for someone new to having salon nails. This glitter adds a little bit of glamour but is still within neutral tones to fit in with your daily life.

Getting slightly longer now, but still within the relatively neutral framework. I love this pop of colour on the tips and I've seen many people have alternate colours. This would be perfect in a gel extension. If neon isn't your thing then you could easily switch this to a pastel shade or even a white if the classic French tip is more your style.

If I was going away to somewhere like Greece this would be my go to nail inspiration, I love some combination of the baby blue and the glitter. Personally the almond shape is my favourite, I think it's elegant and suits my hand shape.

Longer Extensions
Slightly less practical for day to day (although some people manage just fine), these can be amazing if you have a special occasion coming up.

Once again I've opted for another pastel nail, I had something very similar for my 18th Birthday, I had pastel stars instead of the hearts! This screams picnic vibes for me, I love it!

Glitter is the perfect way to add a little luxe to your life, coming out of lockdown I think we all need a bit of glitter. These are nails that just radiate positivity! I also think they'd be perfect for a birthday.

My final example is the classic nude ombre, once again in an almond shape. This is perfect if you need something a little more neutral for work but like a longer extension. Classic is elegant and glamorous and this is one of my favourite inspirations.

Whilst restrictions are easing, coronavirus still exists, let's all play our part to keep our loved ones safe. Remember to observe social distancing guidelines, wear a mask and keep up to date with government legislation.

Stay Safe xx
