Spring/Summer 2022 Trends

For the last 18 months and the past three fashion seasons, the concept of a traditional fashion week has not existed. As a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the social restrictions that have come with it, designers have not been able to host catwalk shows in the way we once knew them, with many fashion houses turning to digital formats or hosting audience-free shows, with some even forgoing the concept altogether. However, last September, we saw more in-person fashion shows than we have experienced for a very long time. Although the schedules were still not quite back to normal, a loosening of restrictions in the four major fashion capitals allowed fashion week to take place in a physical setting – and plenty of designers returned to the catwalk for the first time since March 2020. So in today's post I want to go through three of the biggest fashion trends to hit the high-street this season.

Bold is Best
While colours like kelly green have dominated in the past year, so have neutrals. If you're wondering if you should add some bold shades to your closet, now is definitely the time. Forget low-impact shades, though, because it's bold colours that will soon be all over your feeds. Fashion houses such as Bottega Veneta have mastered the bold is better movement, other brands are beginning to follow suit. Pangaia is a prime example, a eco-friendly sustainable brand offering mid-high end loungewear options.

To achieve this look on a more realistic budget, I’d recommend investing in some wardrobe staples. Whether this is a brightly coloured blazer or a bold top. A brightly coloured blazer can be styled in a variety of different ways, with jeans, leather trousers, skirts and dresses. It has the ability to transform a look from day to night with the right accessories. This would personally be my favourite way to wear this trend.

Simplicity is Key

Quality over quantity has always been my shopping mantra and it's also how many fashion people are curating their closets right now. Luxe staples are winning out, so look for expertly-crafted pieces to buy now and wear forever. Brands such as Balmain, Chanel and Celine never fail to put on an effortlessly elegant runway, showcasing the beauty in everyday simplicity. With sustainability agendas playing on consumers minds, now more than ever is the time to start investing in certain parts of your wardrobe.

In my personal opinion I would say its worth investing in good quality denim, knitwear, plain tops and outwear. In this example I’m going to showcase some knitwear examples, despite the increasing price tag I do think that cashmere knitwear is worth the expense and continually prove themselves to be a worthwhile investment.

Feminine Fabulousness

With muted hues and style androgyny gaining traction season after season, it's been a while since super traditionally-feminine pieces had their moment on the industry's radar. For next summer, however, frothy fabrics and pretty pink hues – from pastel to candy, rose and fuchsia – prove an interesting, playful point of difference on the fashion landscape.

Australian fashion house Zimmermann dominates the feminine frill market with their  array of pastel hue dresses all embellished with frills. Perfect for those summer picnics, farmers market trips and strolls along the beach. For a more realistic budget, Ted Baker offers a range of high-end looking dresses at a mid-range price point.
